Fatal Dallas County car crash death of Derrik Foote

Derrik Foote, a 35-year-old father, was killed after his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. The incident occurred on a Saturday night in Southern Dallas, near the Spur 408/Clark Road exit on eastbound Interstate 20, authorities reported.

The family is now urgently seeking public assistance to identify the hit-and-run driver. They believe someone witnessed or has information about the crash, which happened between approximately 10:20 p.m. and 10:45 p.m.

Foote had just left a social event with friends in Grand Prairie and was riding his white sports bike home to Ennis. He was a lifelong motorcyclist and often rode with his father, Kirk Foote, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

Friends and relatives grew concerned after Foote failed to respond to calls or messages. A friend, Matt, mentioned hearing about the crash on scanners, which triggered fear. Foote’s step-sister, Melissa Arana, shared the heart-wrenching call from authorities, noting the officer described his tattoos as key details.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office stated little is known about the sedan involved in the crash. It remains unclear why the driver chose to flee or how the collision occurred. The family described the act as incomprehensible and a grave injustice.

Another driver involved in the aftermath stopped at the scene, but the primary suspect has not been identified. Detectives are appealing to the public, especially drivers with dash cameras, to review footage from that time and location.

Foote leaves behind a 5-year-old daughter, Jade, whose poignant question about whether her father had his cell phone in Heaven deeply affected the family.

Memorial services for Foote are scheduled for Tuesday, July 1, at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home Chapel in Waxahachie. The family asks that anyone with information about the crash or relevant video contact the authorities.
