**Fatal Vallejo shooting death of George Lee**

VALLEJO, Calif. — George Lee, a 65-year-old resident, passed away following a fatal shooting incident Thursday in the Crest neighborhood. City, county, and community figures gathered for a vigil in the area, expressing grave concern about the rising crime rates.

Councilmember JR Matulac, representing the Crest community, condemned the violence, stating, “We have had enough. This is not acceptable.” He emphasized the city council’s efforts to collaborate with Vallejo police to combat the escalating violence.

The most recent shooting claimed the life of George Lee, a well-recognized local individual known for his preference for traveling by scooter. The incident occurred on Friday at approximately 9 a.m. on Griffin Drive, located behind Fairgrounds Plaza. Lee did not survive the attack, as he died at the scene.

A worker at the plaza expressed deep concern, noting the neighborhood’s vulnerability. He observed boarded-up windows at Kings Market, a direct consequence of a previous shooting in June that left two women wounded. The individual, who chose anonymity, remarked, “Honestly, this has become a daily occurrence… We just try to stay inside, stay safe whenever we hear any booms.”

Vallejo Mayor Andrea Sorce acknowledged the community’s pain, asserting, “We see you, we hear you, we’re not going to allow this to be normalized.” She announced that the city has allocated $100,000 for violence-intervention services and is seeking assistance from the Solano County sheriff’s deputies to enhance patrols.

This incident is not the first tragedy to strike the Crest neighborhood. Earlier this year, in January, a four-year-old girl sustained severe injuries during a shootout in the area. Ebony Antoine, founder of Broken by Violence, who also addressed the recent vigil, stated, “Hurt people hurt people, but healed people heal people, and as a survivor, I know that it’s imperative that we get the healing resources in our community, ASAP.”

Tinisch Collins, executive director of Californians for Safety and Justice, echoed similar sentiments, adding, “It takes intentionality, it takes commitment… we want the rest of Vallejo and the rest of the Bay Area to know that this is not the place to come and commit violence.”
