Rescuers located the remains of the firefighter who had been missing for several days. His personal watercraft turned over during an outing on the lake.
The remains of Juan Omar Chaidez were discovered on Monday. He was pronounced missing after his kayak capsized the previous Saturday near Bratonia Park. The exact time of discovery was approximately 7:00 AM.
Details surrounding his disappearance began after his kayak overturned. Eyewitnesses reported seeing Chaidez and his dog in the water. Later, only the dog remained near the overturned craft. Law enforcement and emergency services conducted extensive searches for him despite challenging weather conditions.
Chaidez had served with the Dallas Fire-Rescue department for more than six years. He was certified as a firefighter-paramedic. Colleagues provided positive accounts of his professional demeanor and character. They described him as a well-liked individual with a broad network of acquaintances.
His work associates characterized Chaidez as a genuinely amiable colleague. A colleague who collaborated with him for five years stated, “He possessed friends in numerous locations. It’s truly difficult to express any negative opinion about him.” The individual added, “While one might not typically associate one’s identity with their profession, this situation required acknowledging his exceptional capabilities and character.”
