Sergio Lara-Garcia succumbs to fatal injuries sustained in a Phoenix car crash.
Fatal Phoenix car crash death of Sergio Lara-Garcia
According to the Phoenix Police Department, law enforcement officers attempted to stop a vehicle operating erratically around 1:30 a.m. on June 28 near 91st Avenue and Buckeye Road. The driver, who was later confirmed as 18-year-old Sergio Lara-Garcia, ignored the order and accelerated away from the officers.
The pursued vehicle was observed entering westbound Interstate 10. A police helicopter tracked its progress. Subsequently, the automobile drove towards the intersection of Dysart and Buckeye Roads. Police reports indicate the vehicle lost control while crossing railroad tracks and collided with a nearby store, resulting in a fire spreading from the wreckage.
Emergency responders, including officers and firefighters, arrived promptly to extinguish the blaze. Both Sergio Lara-Garcia and a 16-year-old passenger, Julian Lugo-Estrada, were transported to a medical facility. Regrettably, both individuals were pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital.
Further details suggest a teenager and a man lost their lives following a pursuit in west Phoenix. The incident began as a fleeing vehicle crash, which then erupted into flames early Saturday morning in the Avondale area.
Eyewitness accounts from the scene provide additional insight. One person observed the unfolding events and shared their experience:
“I was preparing for bed, and this tremendous explosion occurred,” the witness stated. “It sounded like a massive boom! It was frightening! I’m amazed the entire structure didn’t ignite.”
Information regarding the relationships between the victims has been provided by their acquaintances. Sources indicate that Sergio Lara-Garcia and Julian Lugo-Estrada were step-brothers. However, local law enforcement has not officially verified this claim.
