Fatal South Abilene shooting death of Aleisha Cabrera
Law enforcement responded to reports of gunfire in the early hours of Sunday morning at an apartment in the 2600 block of Ivanhoe Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered a female adult inside the residence who had succumbed to injuries from being shot. The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. on June 28th.
The suspect, Steven Pena, a 23-year-old man, was apprehended at the scene and transported to the local detention facility. Authorities have formally accused him of committing murder through the commission of a first-degree felony.
It has been confirmed that the victim’s family members have been informed about the tragic event. The identity of the deceased has been released as Aleisha Cabrera, who was 24 years old. Officials added that their one-year-old child was present in the house during the shooting and is currently under the care of Child Protective Services.
