Fatal Port St. Lucie falling from golf cart death of Daniel Mackin
Law enforcement in Port St. Lucie confirmed the death of Daniel Mackin, a man in his late 50s, whose passing was attributed to falling from a golf cart operated by his spouse. According to official statements, the incident occurred during a weekend event and led to the apprehension of Cynthia Mackin, his wife, on charges of driving under the influence.
Police records indicate that Daniel Mackin was a 59-year-old resident who, during the occurrence on June 28, was reported to be standing on the rear portion of the golf cart while his 62-year-old partner drove. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Daniel slipped and fell, landing on his head, an event that transpired while they were walking on a designated pathway en route to another part of the golf facility. Following the mishap, he was transported to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, where his condition deteriorated and he eventually passed away.
In connection with the event, Cynthia Mackin was formally arrested on a DUI citation. The ongoing probe by Port St. Lucie authorities, led by Sgt. Dominick Mesiti, is set to collaborate with the state attorney’s office to determine if additional legal actions are necessary. A secondary arrest was made involving Justis Morrison, a 37-year-old from Jupiter, who was taken into custody for allegedly obstructing the police investigation by engaging in confrontational behavior and discouraging cooperation.
Both Cynthia Mackin and Justis Morrison were subsequently released from the St. Lucie County Jail under a $500 bond each, as reported by the county sheriff’s office. Local media, including Treasure Coast Newspapers, will update the story as further developments unfold.
