Fatal Leelanau County car crash death of Daniel Michael O’Brien II
On Sunday, a tragic collision occurred at the TART Trail crossing located on South Center Highway in Leelanau County, resulting in the death of the cyclist involved. According to the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office, the incident was caused by a 2020 Chevrolet pickup truck that was towing a trailer and moving north on the roadway.
The authorities reported that the cyclist failed to correctly handle the intersection, leading to a collision with the pickup truck. Following the crash, the cyclist was transported to Munson Medical Center, where medical efforts were unfortunately unsuccessful, and he later passed away due to injuries sustained in the accident.
Daniel Michael O’Brien II, who was identified as the deceased, was confirmed to be from Trenton. The ongoing investigation into the fatal accident includes assistance from the Michigan State Police.
Emergency responders from the Suttons Bay / Bingham Fire and Rescue Department and the Grand Traverse Band Police Department provided support at the scene before the Sheriff’s Office took over the case.
