Law enforcement authorities are delving into the details of a deadly shooting that occurred on Monday at 1:15 a.m., which claimed the life of 16-year-old Demario Anderson and left Janiyah Batey, a 19-year-old, wounded in the same vicinity. The incident unfolded in the parking area of an apartment building situated at 3711 Dickerson Pike.
Upon their arrival at the scene, responding officers confirmed that Demario Anderson was no longer alive, and it was noted that he was masked. Evidence at the location included several spent bullet shells.
Around the same early morning hour, police were called to the Shell gas station at 3863 Dickerson Pike, where they encountered Janiyah Batey inside a badly damaged Chevrolet car. A .45 caliber weapon was located in the car’s interior. Batey was quickly moved to Skyline Medical Center, with medical staff indicating she was in a critical health state.
Preliminary reports suggest that Anderson and Batey were both planning to meet at the apartment complex parking lot when the shooting began suddenly. The underlying reason for the violence is still being looked into by the investigating team.
