Fatal Mesa shooting death of Edgar Cardenas
Law enforcement agencies have officially identified the deceased individual involved in Friday’s incident. The person killed was Edgar Cardenas, who was a well-known suspect being pursued by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Mesa Police Department.
According to reports from the U.S. Marshals Service District of Arizona, Cardenas was wanted for multiple offenses. These included charges like aggravated assault, domestic violence aggravated assault, weapon-related disorderly conduct, misconduct involving firearms, threats, and assault.
The fatal incident took place at the intersection of 32nd Street and Baseline Road. Authorities stated that the U.S. Marshals’ WANTED Task Force located Cardenas at a residence near 87th Street and Baseline Road. They monitored him as he left the area, but before he could drive away, officers attempted to stop his vehicle.
In response, Cardenas fired several rounds at the police officers. The officers returned fire and struck Cardenas, leading to his death. Fortunately, no law enforcement personnel were injured during this event.
The East Valley Critical Incident Response Team has been assigned to investigate the circumstances surrounding this shooting. Additional details were not made available to the public.
