Fatal Wisconsin River drowning death of Francesco Di Filippo
The Wisconsin Dells Police Department announced on Sunday the recovery of Francesco Di Filippo, a young man who had been reported missing while boating earlier this year. He was 20 years old and originally from Chicago, Illinois.
According to reports, Lake Delton authorities and fire responders were called to Newport Beach around 2:13 p.m. on Sunday. They located a deceased person in the water, later identified as Francesco, primarily through his clothing.
Chief Nicholas Brinker expressed condolences to the Di Filippo and Schultz families, stating the department hopes the recovery brings some comfort. He thanked the many agencies and volunteers who participated in the extensive search over the months.
Francesco L. Di Filippo, also known as Frank, went missing after a boat overturned on the Wisconsin River on April 3rd. Tragically, his 75-year-old grandfather, Luis F. Di Filippo, was also missing and was found deceased on April 4th.
Increased search efforts on the river by numerous people are credited with helping locate the younger man after his disappearance.
