Ky’meria German dies in fatal Tallahassee punching
Fatal Tallahassee punching death of Ky’meria German
A 25-year-old man from Florida, Deric Young, is accused of fatally assaulting a one-year-old girl under his care. Tallahassee police arrested the suspect for German’s death. Authorities allege Young intentionally caused her death.
The incident began when Tallahassee police received a call on June 23 regarding a non-responsive infant at a residence on Saxon Street. Responding officers arrived to find the child not breathing and attempted resuscitation efforts, but ultimately failed. The infant was later confirmed deceased at a nearby hospital facility.
As investigators examined the death, law enforcement agencies noted initial indications the death was not accidental. Young was identified as the last individual present with the infant before the tragic outcome. The child’s intended caregiver had departed for work at the time.
Official law enforcement documents secured by the WCTV television station reveal Young provided tearful statements to investigating officers. He confessed to repeatedly striking the infant with his fist. The sworn recounting suggests the assault began before law enforcement personnel arrived.
Further examination by authorities revealed the child suffered significant injuries, specifically multiple blows to the head using a closed fist. These injuries were directly linked to the infant’s fatal condition. The child’s twin sibling was present during the alleged incident but experienced no injury.
Ky’meria Walker’s mother expressed profound shock upon receiving the preliminary autopsy findings. According to the official account, Young stated his use of marijuana influenced his alleged inappropriate behavior with the infant.
The grieving mother shared her pain with WCTV news personnel, stating, “She was an innocent baby. She didn’t deserve that at all.” The mother repeatedly emphasized her daughter’s sweetness and expressed deep confusion about the tragedy. “My baby didn’t deserve that,” she lamented.
The infant girl’s family has established an online fundraising effort to cover final arrangements for the child. Since its creation, the collective has surpassed the $6,000 fundraising target established for this purpose.
Plans for memorial services are postponed until further notice. However, the family has scheduled a balloon release ceremony for June 28th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Jack L. McLean Jr. Park.
Deric Young’s initial court appearance, which was scheduled for June 25th, was canceled due to his absence. On that same day, legal representation was reportedly assigned to the accused. The following day, the child’s mother anticipated a court hearing where charges were formally reviewed.
During the hearing on June 26th, two people associated with Young were present and attempted to advocate on his behalf. The presiding judge issued a warning that statements from supporters could potentially complicate the case and put Young at further legal risk.
A subsequent court date has been established within the next five-day period.
