Fatal Osgood car crash death of Robert William Leo Dunham

Law enforcement officials from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office reported to the scene of a deadly accident occurring on West Chapel Road on Saturday, June 28, at approximately 6:44 p.m. A person who observed the situation had informed authorities that a car had collided with a utility pole, a tree, and ultimately a home.

Upon their arrival and initial examination, the deputies found that a red 2007 Chevrolet Impala, which was going west on West Chapel Road, had been moving at a dangerously high speed. According to reports, the vehicle went over a hill, became airborne, and damaged the road surface upon landing. It then swerved off the north side of the road, crossed back to the south side, and hit a utility pole. After that, the car crashed through some grass, struck a tree, and flipped into the air once more before hitting the residence at 27212 West Chapel Road.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Robert William Leo Dunham, aged 49 from Oldenburg. The passenger was identified as Jesse E. Brummett Jr., who was 51 and from Sunman. Both individuals were found deceased at the location.

Investigators noted that alcoholic beverages were located at the crash site, and further analysis through toxicology tests is still pending. Based on the available evidence and the accounts from witnesses, it appears that speeding was a key contributor to the accident.

The Franklin County Coroner, Brian Baxter, arrived at the scene and took charge of the remains. Assistance came from multiple agencies, including Letts EMS and the Clarksburg Fire Department.

A spokesperson from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, Major Gregory Mehlbauer, mentioned that the official inquiry into this incident is continuing.
