Ruby Hamrick Dies in Fatal Ketron Island Stabbing

Fatal Ketron Island stabbing death of Ruby Hamrick

A tragic stabbing incident on Ketron Island has led to the death of Ruby Hamrick, 26. The stabbing occurred near the 10300 block of Morris Boulevard on June 22nd. Hamrick, identified as the victim, sustained multiple sharp-force injuries and was pronounced dead after receiving CPR from neighbors before emergency services arrived that evening. Her death was ruled a homicide by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The same day, June 22nd, authorities were dispatched following reports of a stabbing. While Ruby Hamrick received aid from bystanders, a separate incident unfolded later that night. James Jordan, 30, was found deceased inside his submerged vehicle near a ferry dock. His death is currently under investigation with cause and manner pending further examination.

Neighbors, including Scott Maddox, provided crucial aid during the night. Maddox stated Hamrick fought for over an hour while they performed CPR. Following the stabbing call, a loud crash was heard, and a vehicle was observed floating in the water. Search efforts by Pierce County Dive and Marine Services eventually located the submerged car.

Hamrick’s 1-year-old child was placed under temporary Child Protective Services care. Sheriff’s Office officials suggest unreported domestic violence may have been present, with Hamrick as the alleged victim. Spokesperson Carly Cappetto indicated the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department had been discussing this possibility with island residents.

Hamrick was described as a well-known year-round resident of the community. Scott Maddox emphasized the close-knit nature of the island, stating, “We were probably as close to family as it comes.” The ongoing investigation continues into both fatalities and the circumstances surrounding the events.
