Fatal Moore County medical episode death of Thurman Smith
Law enforcement indicated that a 71-year-old man, identified as Thurman Smith of Seagrove, passed away Saturday after his farm equipment collided with a tree. The incident occurred along Dover Church Road, situated west of Jermayne Farm Road.
According to responding authorities, a convoy transporting historical farming machinery had concluded a display in Montgomery County and was en route to Seagrove. Inside this procession, the accident report states that one tractor operated at a slower pace, causing it to fall behind the main group.
A passing automobile reached the location and promptly informed the remaining participants, who then moved quickly to provide assistance.
Emergency medical services personnel confirmed that the man’s life could not be saved upon their arrival. The official documentation designates the probable cause of death as a medical emergency.
Dover Church Road experienced a lane reduction for emergency response activities that extended for two hours.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is currently examining the incident.
Multiple agencies contributed to the response, including the Westmoore Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina Highway Patrol, and the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office. The body was subsequently transported by Boles Funeral Home.
