Fatal Cape May County car crash death of Chase Yoachum
The life of Chase Yoachum, a 13-year-old from Deptford, is being remembered by those who knew him after a tragic traffic collision in Cape May County. This youth has been described by his family and community acquaintances as a gentle and compassionate person.
According to authorities, Chase was a passenger in a motor vehicle operated by his father when their vehicle was hit from the opposite direction on June 23. The incident occurred in the Cape May Court House area, specifically in Middle Township.
Following the collision, Chase was transported to a hospital in Camden via air ambulance, but medical professionals confirmed that he had passed away. His father, Michael Yoachum, who was 55 at the time, is currently receiving treatment for several injuries at a different medical institution.
The extended family of Chase expressed their grief and shared cherished memories of their “bright light,” who was noted for his warm nature and genuine care for others. They have requested donations to help provide meals, groceries, and essential items for the family during this challenging period.
A public memorial service is planned for July 8 at a location in Deptford. Chase would have started his eighth-grade studies at a local school in the upcoming academic year.
The educational leader of the school district shared condolences and highlighted Chase’s positive qualities, referring to him as a friendly individual involved in various activities, including sports. He was a valued member of a local soccer team, as acknowledged in a community post, and also participated in wrestling.
Officials have confirmed that the accident, which is currently under examination, happened early in the morning hours on a specific road. Initial findings suggest the other driver, a 26-year-old man from Woodbine, was involved in passing a vehicle when the collision occurred.
Authorities advised that further updates regarding the case might become available.
