Colton Jose dies in fatal I-94 crash
Fatal I-94 crash death of Colton Jose
Scott Botcher, the village manager of Fox Point, has been formally charged following a deadly motorcycle accident on Interstate 94 near Elmhurst Road in the Town of Delafield on June 25th. The charge against the 62-year-old Delafield man is hit-and-run.
Investigators reported that during a period of heavy evening traffic, the motorcycle driver could not stop in time when the vehicle immediately ahead of him slowed down and rear-ended a white SUV. This collision ejected the motorcyclist, resulting in his death at the scene as per the official criminal complaint.
The identity of the deceased was confirmed on Monday as Colton Jose, who was 29 years old and from Sussex.
During the ongoing investigation, Department of Transportation video evidence showed a black car slow down and swerve to the right before still striking the fallen motorcycle rider. The footage further depicted the car continuing westbound after the incident.
According to the criminal complaint, investigators identified a component from the black vehicle on the roadway. Combined with a 911 call placed at 6:37 p.m. on the night of the crash, this evidence helped trace the car to Botcher. The call was disconnected before being answered.
When questioned by state troopers, Botcher stated he believed he had hit the motorcycle and subsequently drove home, according to the complaint.
In a statement to WISN 12 News on Monday night, Fox Point Village President Christine Symchych characterized the allegations as “tragic.”
The statement added that the Village is still collecting information and will avoid reaching conclusions hastily.
The Fox Point Village Board approved a motion earlier that day permitting Botcher to utilize some of his accrued paid time off during times of “required absence.”
