Identified individuals confirm that John Branscomb was the victim of a fatal stabbing incident occurring at Navy Pier. Law enforcement authorities have indicated that charges against the person of interest have not been pursued.
The stabbing took place on Sunday evening, approximately at 5:30 p.m., according to Chicago police reports.
Chicago police officials revealed that an altercation occurred between two men at the Navy Pier location. A 56-year-old man was reportedly stabbed multiple times by a 64-year-old man in the vicinity. The suspect subsequently sustained a stab wound to the chest before being transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Emergency medical services conveyed the injured John Branscomb, who suffered multiple stab wounds concentrated in his upper body, to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Medical professionals at the facility confirmed his death.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office officially identified the deceased as John Branscomb, a resident of Chicago, on Tuesday.
The suspect, who was also transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a chest wound, was reported to be in serious but stable condition. Chicago police confirmed that the suspect was released on Tuesday without being formally charged.

The incident happened on Sunday around 5:30 p.m., Chicago police said.
Investigators said a 56-year-old man and a 64-year-old man were in an argument at the location when the older man allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times with a sharp object before he himself was also stabbed.
It’s unclear what precipitated the argument.
The victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial for multiple stab wounds to his upper body. Police said he died at the hospital.
He was identified as John Branscomb of Chicago by the Cook County Medical Examiner on Tuesday.
The suspect was also taken to Northwestern Memorial in serious condition with a stab wound to his chest.
On Tuesday, Chicago police said the suspect was released with no charges.
