Karen Diamond Dies After Boulder Attack: Charges Updated to Murder
Karen Diamond, 82, passed away following the June 1 assault in Boulder. The District Attorney’s office has now charged the suspect with first-degree murder.
The attack on Pearl Street Mall involved Mohamed Sabry Soliman targeting supporters of a Gaza aid group. He was accused of throwing Molotov cocktails at them.
Boulder authorities reported 29 people were affected by the violence, with 13 sustaining physical harm. Karen Diamond’s death was described as tragic due to serious wounds.
District Attorney Michael Dougherty expressed sympathy for the Diamond family, calling the victim’s passing heartbreaking.
The legal case against Soliman has been significantly enhanced. Charges against him now include first-degree murder for Karen Diamond’s death. Two counts were amended under different theories. Additional counts were added for other victims identified recently.
The initial charges included attempted murder, assault, and use of incendiary devices. These were updated following the news of Diamond’s passing.
Soliman faces both state and federal charges, including hate crimes. He entered a not guilty plea. The District Attorney’s office did not provide additional comment regarding the murder charges through federal authorities.
The next scheduled court appearance is set for July 15th.
