Khrystopher Lemus dies in fatal Long Beach drowning
Fatal Long Beach drowning death of Khrystopher Lemus
Authorities announced Monday the identity of a man who passed away after becoming trapped at a low head structure in the Los Angeles River. The individual, Khrystopher Lemus, was 40 years old and a resident of Long Beach.
According to reports from the county’s Medical Examiner’s office, Lemus lost his life around 3:15 p.m. on Sunday.
Emergency services responded to the scene and managed to rescue two people from the river, including one young child who was one year old. These individuals were transported to a specialized medical facility for urgent care.
Tragically, Lemus and the dog accompanying them did not survive the incident.
Low head dams, which are constructed across rivers or streams to allow for continuous water flow, present significant hazards. According to civil engineering experts, these structures can generate powerful, unpredictable currents, earning them the nickname “drowning machines.”
