Fatal Wilkes County car crash death of Randy Lee Johnson
Law enforcement officials report three fatalities resulting from a severe collision on a North Carolina road. Initial findings suggest a single vehicle moved into the opposite lane before striking another vehicle head-on.
NC Highway Patrol units were dispatched to the location in Wilkes County on Friday, June 27th, around 7:00 p.m.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a Jeep Liberty, operated by Randy Lee Johnson, crossed the center line and collided directly with a Nissan Altima. Johnson, aged 62, was confirmed deceased at the scene.
Also killed in the accident was Vickie Gustafson Key, a 72-year-old woman sitting in the back seat of the Altima. She too was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jonathan Andrew Laws, 34, the driver of the Altima, received critical medical attention but eventually succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Laws was identified as a deputy with the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office through his public obituary information.
One other person inside the Altima suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Officials confirmed that neither alcohol impairment nor speeding played a role in this tragic incident.
