Fatal Kansas City shooting death of Terrance M. Bell

A man faces charges concerning the death of a 45-year-old individual. De’Onte Thompson is being prosecuted for the fatal shooting of Terrance M. Bell in Jackson County.

Jackson County law enforcement authorities have formally accused De’Onte Thompson. Thompson is charged with second-degree murder and causing criminal action through the use of a weapon in connection with Mr. Bell’s death.

On the morning of June 21, Kansas City law enforcement officers were dispatched following a report regarding gunfire in a specific residential area. The incident location was within the Knoches Park neighborhood, specifically the 4200 block of East Linwood Avenue.

According to legal documents, Mr. Bell was found injured inside a home kitchen shortly after the incident. He suffered fatal gunshot wounds to his back.

At the property, investigators encountered spent shell casings and evidence of significant blood presence near the rear entrance. Specifically, two 9-millimeter shell casings were located outside the back door, and a large bloodstain was observed in the kitchen.

A person who witnessed the event reported that she and the victim were inside the residence when they heard a disturbance at the back door. Before she could react, someone identified as Thompson told Mr. Bell not to move. She then heard three distinct gunshots afterward.

Thompson is currently being held without the possibility of release until a court hearing scheduled for July 1.
