Fatal Kaufman County car crash death of Billy McKellar
Billy McKellar of Fort Worth was one of five individuals killed during a major collision on Interstate 20 in Kaufman County over the weekend. The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that McKellar, along with three other members of his family, lost their lives in this terrible accident.
The victim, who was the father of Zabar McKellar, died at the scene of the crash. He was alongside his son, daughter-in-law Krishaun McKellar, and their 15-year-old grandson Kason McKellar when their vehicle was struck head-on by a commercial truck. The family was traveling together.
Evan McKellar, the 20-year-old son, is currently in critical condition at Parkland Hospital in Dallas and is the only immediate family member known to have survived the incident.
The driver of the commercial truck, Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, a 27-year-old man, has been arrested. He is being held on charges of five counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault using a deadly weapon, according to authorities.
The truck involved belonged to Hope Trans LLC, a company located in Tacoma, Washington. Reports indicate this transportation company has a documented past of infractions, including drivers surpassing their allowed driving time. Attempts to reach the company for further information have not been successful.
Law enforcement has not yet identified the fifth person who died in the accident, who was in another vehicle involved in the crash.
The McKellar family has initiated a certified GoFundMe page to aid with Evan McKellar’s medical recovery expenses. Family members shared a message online expressing deep grief and acknowledging the community’s support and donations.
