Fatal McDowell County car crash death of Katherine Jennings
A tragic incident in McDowell County resulted in the death of Katherine Jennings on Monday, June 30th. The fatal collision occurred that evening around 7:37 p.m. on US-221 South, straddling the McDowell and Rutherford county line.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the fatal accident involved a white 2025 Honda Pilot driven by Fasan Dayo from New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. This vehicle was attempting to pass several cars while moving southbound. It failed to complete the maneuver and went into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with a black 2024 Toyota GR86 being driven by Jacob McKinney from Nebo.
The impact from this head-on collision caused the Honda to lose control and roll off the roadway. Katherine Jennings, who was a passenger in the Honda Pilot, died at the scene, alongside the vehicle’s driver, Fasan Dayo.
The driver of the Toyota, Jacob McKinney, survived the crash but suffered serious injuries requiring immediate medical attention via helicopter to Mission Hospital. Tragically, Christopher Corn from Nebo, also a passenger in the Toyota, did not survive.
Multiple emergency services responded, including McDowell EMS, Rutherford County EMS, Glenwood Fire Department, Union Mills Fire Department, and McDowell County Rescue. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol has confirmed they are continuing their investigation into this devastating car crash.
