Fatal Kaufman County car crash death of Krishaun McKellar
A devastating collision on Interstate 20 in Kaufman County has resulted in the loss of several lives, with Krishaun McKellar from Fort Worth being one of the five fatalities. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed her death, noting she was a member of the McKellar family involved in the deadly accident that occurred on Saturday.
Krishaun McKellar passed away alongside her husband, Zabar McKellar, their 15-year-old son, Kason McKellar, and her father-in-law, Billy McKellar. The family was en route together when a large commercial truck impacted their vehicle at a high rate of speed.
Krishaun McKellar’s 20-year-old daughter, Evan McKellar, remains the sole surviving child of the family. She is currently in critical condition at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, and a fundraising effort has been set up to help cover her medical expenses.
The driver of the commercial truck, identified as 27-year-old Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, has been taken into custody. Investigators believe Gonzalez-Companioni drifted asleep at the wheel, leading to the multi-vehicle accident described as catastrophic. He faces charges including five counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The truck was operated by Hope Trans LLC, a company based in Tacoma, Washington. This firm has previously received citations for safety infractions related to driver fatigue. Efforts to contact the company for a statement have not yielded a response.
One additional person involved in a separate vehicle in the collision remains unidentified by authorities.
A GoFundMe page has been created to support Evan McKellar’s medical treatment. A family representative expressed sincere appreciation for the widespread support, highlighting the community’s compassion during this difficult time.
Further updates regarding the ongoing investigation are expected to be released on Wednesday.
