Fatal car crash on I-55 in St. Louis takes two lives
Two drivers lost their lives in a head-on collision on northbound Interstate 55 near the Gasconade Street area, authorities confirmed today.
The collision occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. Friday, with initial 911 reports suggesting one driver was traveling the wrong way on the highway. Dawn Tampow, a 63-year-old from St. Louis operating a Kia Soul, was going the opposite direction before striking the Corvette driven by Ralph Morse, who was 74 years old and from Imperial.
St. Louis police have officially released the names of the deceased. An ongoing investigation is seeking to determine the cause of Tampow’s fatal wrong-way entry onto the interstate.
