Fatal Texas car crash death of Nicole LaJeunesse Gregory

The family and friends of Nicole LaJeunesse Gregory remember the North Texas woman who passed away as a result of a multi-vehicle pileup on I-20 near Terrell. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the 48-year-old woman was driving a Jeep Compass when it was struck by an 18-wheeler in the devastating crash that occurred on Saturday. Friends recall that Gregory, a native of North Texas who graduated from North Mesquite High School, was known for her generous and kind nature. Her family has requested privacy following her tragic death.

The Texas DPS reported that 27-year-old Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, the driver of the 18-wheeler involved in the deadly incident, was allegedly asleep at the wheel and failed to notice stationary traffic. His vehicle collided with a Ford F-150 that was carrying five passengers. The subsequent chain reaction saw the 18-wheeler pushed into two other large trucks, causing one to jack-knife. This resulted in the truck striking a Jeep Compass, a Ford Mustang, and a Honda passenger vehicle. Texas DPS stated that four people in the F-150 were pronounced dead at the scene, while the fifth occupant, 20-year-old Evan McKellar, was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition.

Emergency services described the scene as catastrophic, initiating a mass casualty response. First responders closed off the highway in both directions to manage the situation, providing medical aid and conducting investigations to determine the root cause of the accident.

Gonzalez-Companioni, according to Texas DPS reports, faces multiple charges, including five counts of manslaughter. He is currently being held in the Kaufman County Jail under a $1.5 million bond.
