Brendan Berg dies in fatal Manitoba car crash

Fatal Manitoba car crash death of Brendan Berg

Police say a third person has died following a two-vehicle collision that killed Winnipeg musician Brendan Berg and his partner Olivia Michalczuk on Canada Day. Royal Canoe band members confirmed Berg, who would have turned 43 later that day, and his girlfriend Michalczuk, aged 31, were killed in the incident.

RCMP confirmed the death of a third individual connected to the fatal highway accident. Investigators suspect one vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with Berg and Michalczuk’s stationary car, causing it to overturn and go down an embankment. Mounties are leading the criminal collision investigation alongside other specialized units.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 36-year-old man from Winnipeg, and a 29-year-old passenger from Swan River sustained serious injuries. The third fatality resulted from injuries incurred in the initial crash, police stated. The driver of the second car remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene near Bowsman, located northwest of Duck Mountain Provincial Park, after a head-on collision occurred on July 1st around 3:30 p.m. The crash site is situated approximately 280 kilometers from Brandon. Upon arrival, officers found both vehicles stranded in a ditch, with one severely damaged. Swan River RCMP continue their investigation into the cause of this deadly intersection crash.
