Danielle Fisher dies in fatal Tulsa shooting
Fatal Tulsa shooting death of Danielle Fisher
Tulsa law enforcement officials have officially confirmed that the individual killed by a police officer during a late-night incident was Danielle Fisher. The event occurred on Saturday and involved a high-risk situation at a residence.
The fatal incident began when police were dispatched to a house located near East Admiral Place and South 189th East Avenue. The initial report came from a nearby resident who stated that a woman armed with knives had approached their property, behaving in a highly unusual and alarming manner. According to the caller, the woman, later identified as Fisher, had swung a knife near a bicycle belonging to a child, prompting the emergency response.
Upon their arrival, officers found themselves facing an escalating threat inside the home. Two people were involved in a heated disagreement at the time of the officers’ knock on the door. Suddenly, Danielle Fisher emerged, holding knives in both hands and advancing aggressively toward the responding personnel.
In response to the immediate danger posed by her actions, one officer discharged their weapon to neutralize the threat. Medical personnel provided assistance at the scene, but the injuries proved fatal, and Fisher did not survive.
Police also reported that a male companion inside the house was detained without further incident and was taken into custody on the spot. The captain overseeing the operation highlighted the inherent dangers officers face in close-quarters encounters, emphasizing that body armor is specifically engineered to stop bullets, not knives, and that training prioritizes stopping aggression rather than inflicting lethal harm.
The captain explained that officers must act swiftly in such scenarios, noting that split-second decisions in dynamic situations often involve targeting the largest available body area to halt the threat effectively. This approach is not aimed at causing death but at de-escalating the immediate danger.
Community members in the vicinity expressed concern over the rise in crime and reported that homelessness has become more prevalent in the area in recent years. They added that this incident represents the second shooting in the neighborhood within the last couple of months, raising questions about safety in the community.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending a full investigation. The Tulsa County District Attorney’s office will examine the case to determine if any legal action is warranted.
