Fatal Jurupa Valley car crash death of Javier Rios
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office reported the apprehension of a 23-year-old driver following a deadly collision that claimed two lives on Saturday in the Jurupa Valley area. This incident unfolded early in the morning hours, prompting an urgent law enforcement response.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Limonite Avenue and Beach Street shortly after 2:50 a.m. on Saturday due to an initial report indicating a serious traffic accident. Upon arrival, officers discovered two automobiles obstructing the eastbound flow of traffic on Limonite, located west of Beach Street, causing a major roadblock.
Among the vehicles involved, a minivan was notably cited in the incident, and preliminary investigations suggest that multiple individuals were not properly secured in their seats at the time of the crash. Tragically, two of these passengers from the minivan suffered severe injuries that proved fatal, with medical examiners confirming their deaths at the scene.
All occupants of the other vehicle and the remaining individuals inside the minivan were transported to a medical facility for treatment, though the extent of their injuries has not been officially disclosed by health authorities.
The Jurupa Valley branch of the sheriff’s department activated its specialized team for traffic collision analysis, leading to the determination that the minivan’s operator, Bryan Cruz-Arenas, a local resident of Jurupa Valley, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. This finding is central to the ongoing legal proceedings.
Cruz-Arenas has been formally charged and is awaiting possible incarceration at the Robert Presley Detention Center. The charges against him include two counts of vehicular homicide related to intoxication and one count of driving under the influence that resulted in death or serious harm.
Further details regarding the deceased individuals were released, identifying the two fatalities as an 18-year-old from Eastvale named Sabrina De Lara and a 24-year-old from Jurupa Valley, Javier Rios.
To facilitate the ongoing inquiries, Limonite Avenue between Bain Street and Beach Street was put on hold for law enforcement activities. Fortunately, the closure was lifted by 11:55 a.m., restoring normal traffic flow.
