Fatal Harlan County car crash death of Kieranee E. Smith – Obituary

Identified by authorities as the victims of a tragic event on U.S. 119 close to Cumberland within Harlan County, Kentucky, were nine-year-old Kieranee E. Smith and her father, Trey V. Stewart, aged 25, both residents of Partridge.

The collision, which occurred late on Sunday, led to multiple individuals receiving serious injuries. These individuals were transported, some by helicopter to nearby medical facilities, while others were taken to Harlan ARH for medical attention.

A Kentucky State Police Trooper named Shane Jacobs explained that neither the driver nor the person seated beside the driver had worn seatbelts during the crash. He added that the smallest child in the back seat was correctly secured in a car seat.

Trooper Jacobs expressed the deeply upsetting nature of the scene, stating, “Handling an accident like this is emotionally draining. Fatal crashes always leave a significant mark. In this specific instance, everyone involved was young, ranging from a 25-year-old adult down to a one-year-old child.”

After the incident, U.S. 119 was shut down temporarily to permit emergency responders to manage the situation at the crash site.
