A serious collision occurred on U.S. Highway 119 in proximity to Cumberland within Harlan County. Authorities from the county’s coroner’s office have confirmed that Trey V. Stewart, a 25-year-old from Partridge, and his 9-year-old daughter Kieranee E. Smith, sustained fatal injuries in the accident. Additional individuals involved in the incident were transported to regional medical facilities or received care at Harlan ARH.
Kentucky State Police Officer Shane Jacobs provided details, noting that both the driver and the front-seat passenger were not secured with seatbelts at the time of the crash. He also observed that the youngest child, situated in the rear seat, was safely positioned in a car seat. Reflecting on the scene, Jacobs emphasized the emotional impact, stating, “Arriving at a location like this is profoundly distressing, and any fatality, irrespective of age, is a significant event. Here, all the affected parties were young individuals, ranging from the 25-year-old father down to an infant.”
The accident transpired on a Sunday evening, leading to a temporary road closure in the area.
