Ar’mon Covington dies in fatal Akron shooting
Fatal Akron shooting death of Ar’mon Covington
Akron law enforcement revealed new details regarding the fatal shooting at a gas station over the weekend. Law enforcement authorities have identified the individual responsible in this incident and are actively seeking him.
The incident transpired around 4:18 in the early morning hours of July 5 at the BP gas station located at 778 Grant Street. Initial investigation findings indicate that the deceased, identified as 26-year-old Ar’mon Covington, had encountered another person harassing women in the adjacent parking area.
Following Covington’s intervention, the individual involved retrieved a firearm, discharged multiple shots at Covington, and then departed southbound along Grant Street, as confirmed by local authorities.
“A tragic situation. The perpetrator discharged our deceased at close proximity and left the scene without apparent remorse,” stated Akron Police Lieutenant Michael Murphy.
Covington did not survive the injuries, as medical professionals pronounced him deceased at the immediate location.
“Cruel and senseless,” remarked Covington’s mother, Na’Tosha Covington. “It’s a profound pain. Incomprehensible.”
The suspect has been confirmed as 41-year-old Damario McCall by Akron Police. A formal accusation of murder has been issued for his apprehension.
When asked about his mindset, Covington expressed bewilderment, questioning the reasoning behind such violent actions.
Law enforcement agencies are currently seeking McCall.
Records from the Ohio Department of Corrections indicate McCall’s incarceration in 2009 due to multiple charges, one of which was involuntary manslaughter. He was released from the correctional system earlier this year.
“Deep concern,” Covington conveyed. “A sincere hope they apprehend this individual quickly. To prevent further harassment of women, to shield others from harm. No parent should endure such loss.”
The mother described a profound emotional emptiness following her son’s passing.
“He represented my most recent child. My only male offspring,” she shared.
Covington is remembered by her mother as a devoted family man who cherished music and adventure. Their conversation took place at a public park frequently visited by her son.
“This place was his, ” she recalled, “where he spent hours playing basketball. Among his favorite locations.”
Court documents disclose that Ar’mon Covington faced a domestic matter earlier this year and was placed under community supervision. Nevertheless, authorities have indicated no link exists between that matter and the homicide.
