Platte County authorities have confirmed the identity of the teenager who was killed when two vehicles collided on Missouri 45 Highway. The fatal incident happened on Thursday, July 3, around 4 p.m. near Kisker Road.

The preliminary report from the Platte County Sheriff’s Office states that the driver of a 2018 Kia Rio, traveling northbound on the highway, lost control and crashed head-on into a 2024 BMW 230i that was coming from the opposite direction. The Kia driver, identified as an 18-year-old from Kansas City, Kansas, did not survive the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emmelie Rodriguez, who was a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, was the individual in the Kia. The driver of the BMW, a 79-year-old man, and the female passenger, aged 69, were transported to a local medical facility. Both were reported to have suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The Missouri 45 Highway was shut down for traffic management and investigation purposes for approximately four hours. Law enforcement conducted a thorough on-site examination to determine the exact causes of the accident. Officials have indicated that they are still investigating why the Kia driver lost control.
