Law enforcement authorities in Church Point have disclosed the identity of the person killed during a shooting incident, and they are conducting a search for the individual suspected of committing the crime.
The person who lost their life has been identified as Jiveston Hebert, who was 38 years old at the time.
A local resident named Calvin Scott, aged 26 and from Church Point, is being sought by police on allegations including second-degree murder, illegal possession of a weapon by someone with a prior conviction, and the improper use of a firearm.
According to investigators, the fatal shooting occurred on North Wilson Street, situated off West Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, and Jiveston Hebert was transported to Acadia St. Landry Hospital on Monday, July 7, around 8 p.m. He was later confirmed to have died as a result of a gunshot wound to his chest.
Officials are asking the public to come forward with any information regarding Scott’s current location. They also mentioned that Scott has a documented background involving weapons-related offenses and incidents involving firearms.
