**Fatal hit-and-run death of Tyler Kluesener in Woodstock**

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday that the individual suspected of the hit-and-run that killed a Crystal Lake teenager has been identified. Tyler Kluesener, 31, of Woodstock was found deceased in his residence.

Officials were dispatched to investigate Kluesener’s death on July 4 at approximately 5:30 p.m. Following the investigation, authorities confirmed that the vehicle associated with the fatal crash was located at the scene. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office stated no further charges were filed against Kluesener at that time.

An autopsy was conducted on Kluesener, but no preliminary findings regarding the cause or manner of death were released. Toxicology results remain pending.

The incident began on July 2, 2025, when Nicholas Laureys, a 15-year-old from the Crystal Lake area, was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Terra Cotta Road. The driver fled the scene, and authorities sought a dark-colored 2017 or 2018 Jeep Cherokee with front-end damage.

Kluesener’s death was identified by the McHenry County Coroner, Michael Rein, though specific details surrounding his demise were not disclosed. Woodstock police involved in the initial investigation chose not to comment further on the matter.

Nicholas Laureys, described by family members as an enthusiastic and hands-on young man, is the subject of a fundraising effort to support his family during this difficult time.
