The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department announced the identity of an individual who was shot and killed by two police officers during an overnight chase, the agency stated. This incident occurred last month.
According to reports from the St. Louis Metro Police, Arick Wren, identified as being 42 years old and from Hazelwood, Missouri, met his demise during the early morning period of June 22nd. The encounter with law enforcement transpired at this time.
Prior to the fatal event, around 2 a.m., authorities were dispatched to a location on Manchester Avenue, near Sarah Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered a man who had sustained gunshot wounds. Initial reports indicated the victim had been shot.
While investigating the scene, officers acquired a description of an individual matching the area, suggesting the suspect was operating a moped. Shortly after, police observed a person fitting this description and attempted to pull the vehicle over.
Initially, the individual on the moped declined to comply with the officers’ request to stop. The pursuit continued until it concluded near Clayton Avenue, in the 3900 block.
Once the suspect dismounted the moped, he ignored commands from police and reached into a bag. In response, two officers fired their weapons, resulting in the suspect’s death.
Following the incident, the St. Louis Metro Police identified Wren as the person involved and confirmed the recovery of a gun from his possession at a later date. Information regarding the officers who discharged their firearms indicates they had served with the department for 14 years and 7 years respectively.
