Bailey Martin, a police officer from Odessa, has died following catastrophic floods in the Hill Country region. His body was located after he went missing during the severe weather event.
Kerr County authorities announced today that an Odessa Police Department officer was among the fatalities connected to the recent floods. The department shared the news on Tuesday via social media after locating Martin’s remains on Monday.
Efforts are currently underway to transport the body back to Odessa for arrangements. Honor Guard personnel and colleagues familiar with Officer Martin are providing respectful oversight for the casket while awaiting its release from the Travis County facility.
Martin was last seen in Kerr County, where he had traveled with his family to celebrate the July 4th holiday. Tragically, his girlfriend’s disappearance is also being investigated, and it remains unclear whether she is still missing or if her situation has been resolved.
The Odessa Police Department has requested public support in preserving the privacy of the Martin family during this incredibly difficult time. They are grieving not only the loss of one of their own but also the broader impact of the devastating floods.
“This is a heartbreaking time for our department and the entire community. Our deepest prayers are with the Martin family and all those impacted by this natural disaster,” a spokesperson for the Odessa Police Department stated.
Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding both disappearances while managing the ongoing recovery operations in the flood-affected areas. The scale of the flooding resulted in multiple fatalities across the region, with emergency services working tirelessly to assist residents and manage the aftermath of the deluge.
