Fatal Polaris shooting death of Joseph Suiter

A 26-year-old man, Joseph Suiter, lost his life after being shot, authorities reported. The incident happened at a shopping center parking area in Polaris on Wednesday. Police were dispatched to the Target car park at 1485 Polaris Parkway around 6:15 p.m. due to reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found Suiter inside a vehicle with a gunshot injury. Medical examiners confirmed his death at the scene shortly after, at approximately 6:19 p.m.

Investigators suggested Suiter might have been involved in a confrontation at an apartment complex entrance nearby. The suspect, reportedly driving, fired at him and fled into a wooded region bordering the parking lot. The shooting, according to police, was unrelated to the nearby Target store, which continued operating normally without incident. No shots were fired inside the store or its immediate parking area.

The following morning, police officially identified the suspect as 19-year-old Elijah Roberts. Investigation revealed the motive possibly related to a drug transaction. Columbus Special Weapons and Tactics team arrested Roberts at a residence close to the scene. He is currently being held in a county detention facility.

The situation remains under review by law enforcement.
