Individual Identified in Mayfair District Shooting

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KSBY) — Law enforcement officials have provided the name of the person they suspect is responsible for an incident resulting in injuries, one of which proved fatal, followed by the suspect inflicting self-harm before surrendering later Saturday in the Mayfair District.
The individual in question is 34-year-old David Johnson, who was taken into police custody and is currently undergoing medical treatment at a local healthcare facility. Further details regarding his legal status were not immediately available.
On the morning of Saturday, just after 4 a.m., responding officers arrived at the 5200 block of Oak Street. There, they encountered two individuals requiring medical attention, with one suffering from life-threatening injuries. The suspect, Johnson, was also located on the scene and was observed inflicting harm upon himself.
Emergency medical services utilized non-lethal methods to subdue and transport Johnson to the hospital for evaluation.
The seriously injured person, identified as Jessica Lynn Thompson, 32, did not survive her injuries. Preliminary findings from the county coroner’s office indicate that Thompson was the victim of a stabbing assault.
