Fatal Ocoee shooting death of Mickey Lee Goodman
Investigators confirmed that 52-year-old Mickey Lee Goodman succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent incident in Ocoee that began early Tuesday morning. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel discovered Goodman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds outside a convenience store and fast-food restaurant located along US-64.
The Chattanooga-based medical facility in Cleveland received the injured man, but despite their best efforts, hospital staff could not save Goodman, who passed away from his wounds. Following the death notification, authorities transported the body to Knoxville for the autopsy procedure. Deputies identified 34-year-old Ocoee resident Jayson Wentworth as the person of interest after gathering witness accounts and analyzing surveillance video from nearby businesses.
The investigation team executed a search warrant at Wentworth’s residence and secured him without incident. Charges of second-degree murder have been formally filed against Wentworth, who is currently being held at the Polk County Jail under a $750,000 bond agreement. Additional law enforcement actions are continuing as investigators work to determine all aspects of this tragic shooting incident.
Earlier reports indicated that one individual had lost their life in the predawn violence near the McDonald’s restaurant on US-64, which intersects with US-411. Sheriff Steve Ross previously stated authorities were still collecting information about the incident’s background. This remains an active criminal investigation.
The law enforcement department continues to provide updates as they uncover new information about the fatal shooting that shocked the community.
