Fatal Cathedral City car crash death of Francisco Sicairos Leon

Identified on Friday were two men who lost their lives in a serious multi-vehicle accident on California’s Highway 10 located in Cathedral City. The two individuals were Francisco Sicairos Leon, aged 58 from Desert Hot Springs, and Miguel Macias, aged 49 from Santa Ana. They were pronounced deceased very early Thursday morning, around 6:40 a.m., following a heavy-duty truck incident. This large truck, which was headed in the opposite driving direction, crossed the center separation barrier and went over protective railings before entering the path of oncoming traffic, as explained by an official from the California Highway Patrol, Officer David Torres.

According to the CHP, the operator of the big truck improperly veered to the left on the highway. Once this occurred, the vehicle overturned and subsequently collided with multiple cars. This resulted in damage to several vehicles, including a Mercury Mountaineer, a Toyota Camry, a Chevrolet Malibu, and a Cadillac Escalade. The Mercury vehicle’s driver and one passenger from the Camry, who was not secured by a seatbelt, were thrown from their respective cars during the chaotic event and were confirmed dead at the scene by emergency responders.

Injuries were significant for other involved parties. The driver of the Camry and a passenger seated beside them in that car, along with the operator of the Chevrolet, suffered serious harm. These injured individuals were quickly transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for urgent treatment.

It is still uncertain whether the truck driver experienced any health issues or injuries as a result of the collision. The closure of eastbound traffic on the freeway lasted for several hours, with the road finally reopened at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday.

Anyone possessing information about this collision event is strongly encouraged to reach out to Officer Ponce at the given telephone number: 760-772-5300.
