An elderly Illinois resident, identified as Harvey D. Gipe Jr., has been identified as the individual who died when his motorcycle collided with his vehicle near Hermosa, South Dakota. According to preliminary information released by the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Mr. Gipe Jr., age 77, was driving a 2020 Harley Davidson CVO motorcycle westbound on SD Highway 36 at mile marker 39. The initial report indicated he failed to successfully navigate a curve, veered off the road, entered a northern ditch, contacted a driveway structure, and subsequently rolled. As a result, Mr. Gipe was separated from his motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries.
Separately, law enforcement authorities in South Dakota are investigating an incident involving a bomb threat directed towards a Starbucks establishment in Brookings. A Sioux Falls man is currently being held in connection with this development. The specifics of the bomb threat and the investigation remain at this preliminary stage.
