Fatal San Diego stabbing death of Jason Poindexter
On the Fourth of July, authorities identified the individual killed in a violent attack occurring within a temporary encampment located in the Logan Heights district. The deceased was Jason Poindexter, who was reported as 46 years old.
San Diego law enforcement confirmed the identification through an official statement issued Wednesday. The stabbing took place during the early morning hours, approximately 1:14 a.m., near the busy commercial intersection of 21st Street and Commercial Boulevard.
Emergency responders discovered the man outside a nearby homeless shelter area, presenting with serious lacerations. Medical professionals attempted to provide aid, but the injuries were ultimately fatal, resulting in his death at the hospital.
Following the assault, witnesses reported seeing two individuals, described as possibly homeless, departing the vicinity in separate directions. The incident is currently being treated as a targeted attack by unknown assailants.
Investigators are actively pursuing two leads:
– A male suspect described as white or Hispanic, with a round face and stocky physique, last spotted wearing a head covering and a light blue garment.
– A female suspect, approximately middle-aged, characterized as slender with short brown hair secured in a ponytail. She was last observed dressed in a layered outfit consisting of a black top and pants, along with heavy eye makeup.
Law enforcement recently apprehended a 45-year-old female suspect near the 12th Avenue and Imperial Avenue crossroads. She was temporarily detained but has since been freed from custody pending a more thorough examination of the evidence.
