According to official reports, the accident transpired around 5:15 in the early morning hours, as Williams was navigating westbound Illinois Route 100 just beyond Duncan Hill Road, before his vehicle veered off the road and collided with a tree. Despite being rushed to a medical facility, he was sadly pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. It is reported that Williams was registered as an organ donor, and through his contribution to Mid America Transplant services, he managed to save several lives.

Williams hailed from Troy and was an active member of the community, recognized for his scouting achievements as an Eagle Scout. He was en route to Pere Marquette State Park at the time of the incident.
