The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed Gregory Skaar as the victim. Law enforcement reports indicate the collision transpired at 6:39 p.m. on Wednesday while Skaar was attempting to cross the intersection. Floral arrangements were placed at the scene shortly thereafter.
One resident, Dave Alfvin, expressed profound sorrow regarding the incident. “This is truly tragic,” he conveyed to TMJ4 news outlets. Similarly, Therese VanArsdale, another local resident, described the event as a manifestation of her deepest fears. “This situation is horrifying,” VanArsdale remarked, adding that lives can change instantaneously.
Therese VanArsdale frequently walks in the vicinity of the intersection, often accompanied by her dog Apollo. She stated the incident served as a powerful reminder of the fragility of life. “It compels reflection on the fleeting nature of existence,” VanArsdale explained.
The intersection represents a high-traffic area, functioning as a four-way stop with substantial pedestrian activity and public transportation usage. Kevin Kreger, a nearby neighbor, suggested the installation of additional signage to enhance pedestrian safety.
Several residents informed local media that drivers frequently disregard the mandatory stop signs at this particular intersection. According to data obtained from Wisconsin Community Maps, there have been no reported collisions at this exact location over the past three years. However, two similar incidents occurred approximately one block away in 2024.
Multiple individuals have voiced long-standing concerns about road safety at this intersection. Dave Alfvin indicated he has previously brought these worries to the attention of city authorities. “Numerous close calls have occurred, with drivers frequently failing to stop completely,” Alfvin detailed.
The operator of the vehicle involved remained present at the scene and is currently assisting law enforcement with the ongoing investigation. The Milwaukee Police Department has announced that the District Attorney’s office is examining the case.
