Fatal Plano shooting death of Hammta Shafiye-Mogadam

Law enforcement agencies have confirmed the identity of the individual killed during a Thursday confrontation in Euless, Texas. The deceased is Hammta Shafiye-Mogadam, a 24-year-old from Bedford. This incident is being investigated as a homicide stemming from a prior murder, with authorities revealing that the victim was the target in the previous death.

Plano Police confirmed that the fatal shooting involved an individual sought in connection with a deadly stabbing at a Plano apartment. NBC 5 reports that new details have surfaced regarding the Thursday police-involved shooting in Euless that is connected to the Plano homicide. The slain man was a person of interest in the murder of a young woman.

According to law enforcement, this particular killing was not an isolated incident between strangers. Plano Police Detective Jerry Minton indicated that the two individuals involved were familiar with each other, though the nature of their relationship remains uncertain.

The victim has been identified as Hammta Shafiye-Mogadam, who was 24 years old and resided in Bedford. The suspect, who was subsequently killed by police, is identified as Ladavian Kaliq Pearson, a 26-year-old from Plano.

It is reported that Pearson’s residence, located within the upscale Legacy West shopping center in Plano, was the site of the initial police response. Authorities were called to the apartment complex for a welfare check on Wednesday afternoon.

A confidential informant prompted the police dispatch to send officers to the residence on Water Street, with initial reports suggesting possible injuries inside. Upon entering, officers discovered the body of a young woman, but Pearson was nowhere to be found.

Plano detectives managed to identify and locate Pearson within a remarkably short timeframe, less than 24 hours, leading them to Euless where he had family connections. Euless Police and their Euless PD colleagues were then involved in apprehending him.

Euless authorities initiated a traffic stop at a nearby apartment complex, and plainclothes officers from Plano joined the scene. The standoff, captured on multiple cell phone videos by residents, escalated, and according to official accounts, the suspect posed a threat to the officers present. Consequently, law enforcement action was taken, resulting in Pearson’s death.

The Euless Police Department, which is currently examining the incident, has declined to elaborate further, citing concerns about maintaining the integrity of their ongoing investigation. Despite the tragic loss of two lives, officials have emphasized that the investigation remains active.

Detective Minton stressed that the team is committed to ensuring closure for the families involved and to determining whether the incident involved any additional individuals. The homicide investigation into the July 9th stabbing continues, and no law enforcement officers were injured during the events.

The connection between the two incidents is still being analyzed, but the swift action by authorities highlights their dedication to solving violent crimes and apprehending suspects. The case underscores the complexities involved in balancing public safety with the need for thorough investigations.
