Fatal Grapevine shooting death of John Schwoyer, 59
Grapevine authorities apprehended John Schwoyer, a 59-year-old man, in Flower Mound after he was accused of opening fire at a vehicle in a road rage incident Thursday evening. This alleged act left a child injured.
According to a statement from Grapevine Police Media Manager Amanda McNew, Schwoyer faces charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon as of July 11 morning, held in the Grapevine Detention Center. He is accused of shooting at a truck containing multiple minors, with fragments from the gunfire injuring a young boy.
Around 8 p.m. on July 10, a caller in a pickup truck contacted emergency services near SH-121 and Bass Pro Drive, reporting another driver had shot into his vehicle. The truck’s occupants, including three children and the driver’s family, were present, with the child’s safety being compromised by flying glass. The driver, describing the suspect’s car as a silver Infiniti traveling north on FM-2499 into Flower Mound, stated he was acting defensively and relayed information to police, eventually pulling over at a gas station to assess his family’s well-being.
Identifying the suspect’s car as belonging to a Flower Mound resident on Big Canyon Drive, officers attempted a call but were disconnected. Police from Grapevine and Flower Mound joined forces, setting up a containment area around the suspect’s residence. Flower Mound officers later made contact with the individual inside, who was confirmed to be alone.
