Fatal Arcata shooting death of Joshua Lee McCollister

The death of Joshua Lee McCollister, a 37-year-old man from Fort Bragg, has been linked to two arrests in Humboldt County. The incident occurred on Glendale Drive, east of Fieldbrook, on July 8. McCollister sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) officials confirmed that Danielle Roberta Durand, 41, and Deunn Antoine Willis, 38, have been arrested in connection with the homicide. The arrests were the result of a multi-day investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Division.

A coordinated operation led to the apprehension of both suspects. Around 9 a.m. on July 11, HCSO’s SWAT team executed an arrest warrant at a residence on H Street in Arcata. Simultaneously, Durand was stopped and taken into custody during a felony traffic stop on Highway 101 near the Bayside Cutoff.

Willis was located inside the Arcata residence and detained by SWAT officers. Further investigation revealed that Willis is the primary suspect in McCollister’s killing. It is believed that the victims were acquainted.

Both Durand and Willis have been booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility facing charges of murder (PC 187), conspiracy (PC 182), and robbery (PC 211). The ongoing investigation is being handled by the HCSO Major Crimes Division, and authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact them at (707) 445-7251 or the Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.
