Adolphus Reuben Milligan dies in fatal Bessemer shooting
Fatal Bessemer shooting death of Adolphus Reuben Milligan
The Jefferson County Coroner’s office has confirmed that the man who lost his life during a domestic disturbance involving firearms in western Jefferson County is Adolphus Reuben Milligan, a 39-year-old resident. He was identified as the victim of the July 12 incident.
Law enforcement personnel from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department were called to the scene around 9:43 p.m. on Saturday after receiving a report about an individual found injured in the Letson Street vicinity. Upon arrival, the officers observed that Milligan had suffered a wound caused by a bullet and immediately called for medical assistance, though the situation was confirmed to be fatal shortly after.
Jameshia Cheana Chavers, a 33-year-old woman from Midfield, is facing charges of capital murder in connection with this tragedy. According to official records, she was processed into the county jail later that day and is currently being held without the possibility of release on bond.
The severity of the penalty stems from the fact that Milligan was killed while there were two minors present, aged ten and two years old, making the incident eligible for the highest level of criminal charges under state law.
Investigators have not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the violent confrontation, but preliminary reports indicate it was a heated family argument that escalated out of control. The ongoing probe aims to piece together the events leading up to the fatal outcome, with community members being urged to come forward if they have any relevant information.
