Milwaukee authorities are investigating a nighttime incident with multiple gunshot wounds that occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday. Two individuals were killed and several others were treated for injuries after shots were fired in a busy nightlife area along Water Street and Michigan Avenue.
Antwan Hogans, a 52-year-old entrepreneur and promoter who was also known by his nickname “Tweezy,” is one of the deceaseds. The second fatality was confirmed at a hospital. News coverage is currently focusing on identifying the second person killed.
A group of mourners convened near Hogans’ hookah lounge on Fond du Lac Avenue to express their grief for a man they characterize as a valuable mentor and supporter. Friends shared their profound sorrow.
One friend, William Gardner, described his shock and regret. “I just really lost somebody, man. I don’t know how I’m going to come back from it,” he said. Gardner added, “That was a good friend; he was not supposed to go. They were not supposed to do that to him. Not him. I wish to God he would’ve just turned around.”
Gardner expressed anger over the incident. “And then just to come up and pull a shooting like that. No care. Do you know how you just damaged all the people out here,” he continued.
Hogans was recognized for his positive contributions as a father, friend, and supporter of community causes. “He’s really an inspiration to hundreds of people in the city,” a friend named B Fire noted. “between music, and promoting, and just showing the city love, doing things for charity.”
Lynn Alexandria, another friend, expressed the widespread impact: “This is really a hit to the gut for the community.”
The police investigation continues. Hogans was reportedly working as a promoter for local nightlife venues at the time of the incident.
Milwaukee County officials confirmed the second death at the hospital. Three other people involved in the incident were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The Milwaukee Police Department released a statement: “MPD has responded to multiple violent incidents in the downtown entertainment district recently, including the early morning shooting. We are actively addressing these issues through collaboration with local government and community partners.
